Attractions are nearby, too. Among our antebellum homes, Stanton Hall is one block north, Rosalie is just a few blocks south. Most other attractions are a quick drive from Beekman Place.
In 1839, this building housed a fire station. Soon after, it became the carriage house for the Beekman family, who were merchants on Silver Street in the famed Under-the-Hill section of Natchez. Little Rosie Beekman, the young daughter of the merchant, became one of Natchez' few fatalities of the Civil War when she was struck by shrapnel from the bombardment of the town by a Union gunboat. Father and family were climbing Silver Street in a retreat to safety when young Rosie exclaimed, "Father, I've been kilt!"
